How to Calculate

BMI (Body Mass Index) is calculated by dividing your weight (kg) by the square of your height (m). BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height (m)² Korean Society for the Study of Obesity standards: • Underweight: below 18.5 • Normal: 18.5 – 22.9 • Overweight: 23 – 24.9 • Obese: 25 – 29.9 • Severely Obese: 30 or above

Height: 175 cm, Weight: 70 kg BMI = 70 ÷ (1.75)² = 70 ÷ 3.0625 = 22.86 → Normal range

FAQ

Does a normal BMI mean I am healthy?
BMI is a simple index based only on weight and height. It does not account for muscle mass, body fat percentage, or body composition, so it does not fully reflect health status. Use it as a reference indicator.
Are BMI standards different for Asians?
Yes, the WHO Asia-Pacific standard is lower than the Western standard. Asians are classified as overweight at a BMI of 23 or above.
Can high muscle mass lead to a high BMI?
Yes, since BMI only reflects body weight, people with high muscle mass may have a high BMI even if they are healthy. In such cases, it is recommended to also measure body fat percentage.
