What is OCR?

• OCR (Optical Character Recognition) converts text in images into machine-readable characters. • This tool uses the Tesseract.js engine and supports 100+ languages. • Powered by WebAssembly, all processing happens in your browser — no images are uploaded. • On first use, language training data is downloaded (4–8MB). It is then cached for faster subsequent use.

Tips for Better Results

• Higher resolution images yield better recognition. • Horizontally aligned text works best. • Higher contrast between text and background improves accuracy. • For mixed-language documents, use combo presets like "Korean + English". • Printed text is recognized much more accurately than handwriting.

FAQ

Are images sent to a server?
No. All OCR processing happens locally in your browser via WebAssembly. No images are uploaded. An internet connection is only needed for the initial language data download.
Why does the first run take longer?
The OCR training data for the selected language (4–8MB) must be downloaded. Once downloaded, it is cached in your browser for faster subsequent use.
How do I handle documents with mixed languages?
Select a multi-language combo option like "Korean + English" from the language dropdown. Note that adding more languages increases processing time and may slightly reduce accuracy.
