How to Calculate

Uses the US Navy Method formula. Male: Body Fat % = 495 ÷ (1.0324 - 0.19077 × log10(waist - neck) + 0.15456 × log10(height)) - 450 Female: Body Fat % = 495 ÷ (1.29579 - 0.35004 × log10(waist + hip - neck) + 0.22100 × log10(height)) - 450 Body Fat % Categories (Male / Female): • Essential fat: 2–5% / 10–13% • Athletes: 6–13% / 14–20% • Fitness: 14–17% / 21–24% • Average: 18–24% / 25–31% • Obese: 25%+ / 32%+

FAQ

Where do I measure waist and neck circumference?
Measure waist circumference at the level of the navel, and neck circumference at the narrowest point of the neck. For women, hip circumference is measured at the widest point.
How accurate is this method?
The US Navy Method has a margin of error of approximately ±3–4%. For more precise measurements, DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing are recommended.
Is a very low body fat percentage dangerous?
Yes, dropping below essential fat levels can cause hormonal imbalances, weakened immunity, and other health issues.
